Riyadh Symposium Puts Youth at Heart of Education Quality

Riyadh hosted an international symposium on 15 August 2026 titled "Different Contexts, Shared Aspirations: Youth Reimagining Quality and Excellence in Education," bringing together Saudi and non-Saudi young people, policymakers, experts, and representatives of educational, youth, and international organizations.

The event was organized by the UNESCO Regional Center for Quality and Excellence in Education in الرياض in cooperation with Yemen's Ministry of Education. Discussions centered on how young people themselves define quality and excellence in learning.

Sessions tackled a wide range of priorities, including equity in educational opportunities, future skills and competencies needed for the labor market, and the transition from education to employment and entrepreneurship. Participants also examined education for peace and sustainable development, maintaining education quality in crisis and conflict contexts, and digital transformation, including the responsible use of artificial intelligence in learning and assessment.

Organizers said the main aim was to strengthen dialogue between youth and decision-makers so that future education policies and quality frameworks reflect youth priorities across Saudi Arabia and partner countries.

A new global youth network

Linked to the same event, a Global Youth Network for Quality and Excellence in Education was launched, hosted by the UNESCO Regional Center in الرياض. The network aims to give young people a structured, ongoing role in shaping education policies rather than being consulted only occasionally. It follows a 2026–2027 activation plan across five stages: launch and joining, establishment and governance, operation, expansion and impact, and sustainability and renewal.

For students and families across the Kingdom, the gathering signals a growing push to place youth voices at the center of education planning, connecting classroom experience with the skills employers and communities increasingly need.
