Schools across Riyadh moved to remote learning for one week, running from Sunday, 27 September through Thursday, 1 October 2026. The measure covered students, teachers, and educational and administrative staff across the city.
During that week, lessons continued through the Ministry of Education's Madrasati platform at no cost to families. Schools shared timetables and instructions with parents and students through official communication channels, including email and text messages, to keep the switch to online classes smooth.
Some assessments that had been scheduled during the week were postponed. Schools were asked to announce revised dates for those tests through their usual channels, so families were advised to check official school messages for updates.
Separately, a remote-learning order began on 11 October 2026 and continued through that week following an incident affecting King Khalid International Airport. Families were encouraged to rely only on official school communications during both periods.
Why it matters
For households in Riyadh, the shift meant arranging a suitable study space at home and making sure students could log in to Madrasati on time. Because the platform is free and instructions came directly from schools, parents did not need to complete any fees, applications, or separate online procedures for this measure.
