Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Lenovo in Riyadh on 2 September 2026, on the sidelines of LEAP 2026, to explore strategic collaboration in industrial and technological innovation.
The agreement sets out a framework to identify and develop cooperation opportunities that support industrial development, knowledge transfer and technological advancement, with the aim of building advanced industrial and innovative technological capabilities in Saudi Arabia and beyond.
Under the MoU, the two companies will look at joint work on advanced industries, the development and application of innovative technologies, and ways to combine each side's expertise in industry, materials and technology. The framework also highlights initiatives to develop Saudi talent in engineering, advanced manufacturing and emerging technologies.
Why it matters
The collaboration is framed around supporting Saudi Arabia's ambition to become a global hub for innovation and advanced industries, in line with national industrial and digital strategies. It comes as Lenovo expands its footprint in the Kingdom, including a regional headquarters in Riyadh for the Middle East and Africa, along with plans for research, development and manufacturing facilities.
Lenovo's manufacturing hub in the Riyadh Integrated Special Integrated Logistics Zone is expected to begin production in 2026, producing millions of devices labeled "Made in Saudi" and contributing up to USD 10 billion to non-oil GDP by 2030.
At this stage, the MoU is a corporate strategic agreement rather than a public-service procedure. There are no official fees, application steps or government platform requirements published for residents or businesses in connection with this specific agreement.
