SABIC posts SAR 24.81bn Q2 revenue, specialties grow

SABIC reported revenue of SAR 24.81 billion for the second quarter of 2026, describing its operating performance as resilient despite logistics and supply-chain disruptions. Overall revenue slipped 5% quarter-on-quarter as sales volumes fell about 33%, partly offset by a roughly 41% rise in average selling prices driven by supply disruptions and higher energy costs.

The company's Specialties segment — covering specialty chemicals, engineering polymers and thermoplastics, and high-end applications — posted adjusted EBITDA of about SAR 101 million, down from around SAR 118 million in the previous quarter. Within Specialties, sales volumes grew about 14% quarter-on-quarter while average selling prices rose around 2%, reflecting steady demand in high-value applications and disciplined pricing.

Demand in Specialties remained strong worldwide, with high-end segments such as electronics, medical devices, industrial, infrastructure and mobility applications showing a positive trajectory, helped by seasonal factors. SABIC said its value-pricing actions and a diversified, agile supply chain helped cushion the impact of lower overall volumes.

Sharpening the portfolio

During 2026, SABIC advanced a portfolio optimization plan by signing agreements to divest its European Petrochemicals business to AEQUITA, as part of a combined enterprise value of USD 950 million, and its Engineering Thermoplastics business in the Americas and Europe to MUTARES for an enterprise value of USD 450 million, plus an earn-out linked to free cash flow and any future sale.

The company expects these moves to improve EBITDA margins, free cash flow and return on capital employed, steering its portfolio toward higher-margin specialties and sustainability solutions. SABIC also expanded offerings in biodegradable polymers and advanced elastomers, targeting sustainability needs in automotive and consumer goods and reinforcing demand for sustainable packaging materials and engineering polymers.

For Saudi residents, the results reflect the continued weight of the Kingdom's petrochemical sector, a major employer and a key pillar of the wider economy.
