Saudi Arabia is investing heavily in developing young footballers as it looks ahead to hosting the 2034 World Cup. Through federation-led youth pathways, the Kingdom is expanding tournaments to younger age groups, with plans to include players under the age of six by 2027.
The national football development strategy aims to support players from age six all the way to the professional level, relying on regional training centers, club pathways, and competitions across a range of age groups. The plan reflects a long-term vision to build a strong homegrown talent base ahead of one of the world's biggest sporting events.
The Future Falcons Program
At the heart of this effort is the Future Falcons program, launched in 2019 and expanded under the Saudi Football Federation since 2020. It has become one of the Kingdom's main elite development pipelines, nurturing around 230 promising teenagers so far. Older age groups within the program compete in the Abtal Cup in Europe, while younger cohorts train abroad in Spain to gain international experience.
The broader youth development plan also includes a national scouting scheme spanning more than 100 schools, with over 170 coaches involved. The Schools League counts more than 200,000 players, and over 25 regional training centers are planned to widen access to structured development across the country.
For families across Riyadh, Jeddah, and beyond, the expanding programs offer clearer pathways for young players who dream of representing the national team. As the countdown to 2034 continues, these grassroots efforts signal a sustained commitment to building the next generation of Saudi footballers from an early age.
