Saudi Arabia is moving ahead with an extensive plan to prepare 134 training sites across the Kingdom in the lead-up to the 2034 FIFA World Cup, as part of nationwide readiness for the global tournament.
The plan divides the sites into two categories: 60 venue-specific training locations spread across the five host cities, and 72 team-base-camp training sites distributed across 15 cities. Planned host-base locations include AlUla, AlMadinah, AlBaha, Tabuk, Hail, Umluj, Buraidah, Taif, Jazan, and Al Ahsa.
About half of the 134 sites already exist, while the remainder are set to be built or refurbished. The Sports Ministry has issued a 2026 prequalification notice covering the construction or upgrade of 68 training sites. The facilities are planned to include changing rooms, medical areas, media zones, operational offices, spectator amenities, multisport halls, outdoor courts, and aquatic centers.
Developing Young Talent
Alongside tournament preparations, the Kingdom is expanding its regional player-development network. The network previously operated 17 regional training centers for boys and girls, with a target to grow to 25 centers. These centers aim to identify and nurture young players before they progress to academies and professional clubs.
For residents and families across the Kingdom, the expansion means greater access to quality sports facilities and more pathways for young athletes to develop. The scale of the project reflects long-term investment in sports infrastructure that is expected to benefit communities well beyond the 2034 event.
