Saudi Arabia has been officially confirmed as the host nation of the 2034 FIFA World Cup, following an uncontested bidding process that was formally ratified by the FIFA Congress on 11 December 2024. The decision positions the Kingdom to stage football's biggest event on home soil.
The 2034 tournament will mark a milestone as the first 48-team World Cup played in a single country. The upcoming 2026 edition is shared between Canada, Mexico, and the United States, making the Saudi tournament the first of the expanded format to be held entirely within one nation.
Saudi Arabia was the sole candidate for the 2034 edition after other potential bidders, including Australia, withdrew before the final deadline in October 2023. All 211 FIFA member associations took part in an Extraordinary FIFA Congress held virtually, at which the Kingdom was selected to host by acclamation. The bidding process, opened in October 2023, was structured to maintain continental rotation and align the tournament with the Asian Football Confederation.
The event will be the third World Cup hosted by a member of the Asian Football Confederation, after Japan and South Korea in 2002 and Qatar in 2022, and the second staged on the Arabian Peninsula. As of 2026, FIFA and Saudi announcements identify Saudi Arabia as the single host, with no co-hosts designated.
What comes next
As of 2026, no official public schedule of match cities, stadium list, or ticket pricing in ريال سعودي has been finalized. Detailed venue allocations, fan accommodation schemes, and ticketing categories remain under development. Similarly, no Saudi government e-platforms have yet been designated as official channels for World Cup ticketing, fan visas, or event permits; these are expected to be announced closer to the tournament once operational plans are finalized. For residents and expats across the Kingdom, the confirmation signals years of preparation ahead as the country readies to welcome fans from around the world.
