Saudi Arabia Extends Round 7 Solar Bid Deadline

Saudi Arabia has extended the deadline for bidders taking part in Round 7 of its utility-scale renewable energy program, adjusting the timeline for a set of large solar and wind projects. The Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC), acting as the principal buyer under the National Renewable Energy Program (NREP), is overseeing the tender.

Round 7 was launched in September 2025 and includes six projects with a combined capacity of about 5,300 MW. The mix comprises four solar photovoltaic projects totaling roughly 3,100 MW and two wind projects totaling about 2,200 MW. The Request for Qualification (RFQ) opened in September 2025, with the submission deadline moved from 29 September to 6 October 2025.

Where the projects are located

The four solar projects span several regions: Tabjal 2 in Al-Jouf Province (about 1,400 MW), Mawqqaq in Hail Province (about 600 MW), Tathleeth in Aseer Province (about 600 MW), and South Al-Ula in Madinah Province (about 500 MW). The two wind projects are Bilgah (about 1,300 MW) and Shagra (about 900 MW).

By January 2026, SPPC had published the list of qualified bidders, with around 22 companies cleared to compete for the solar projects, combining managing and technical members. The projects follow a build–own–operate model under long-term power purchase agreements, with SPPC as the offtaker.

The added capacity matters for residents because it feeds into a wider 2026 pipeline of about 14 GW of renewable energy, supporting a cleaner power supply and the diversification goals under رؤية السعودية 2030. As more solar and wind capacity comes online, the Kingdom aims to reduce reliance on conventional fuels for electricity generation across its regions.
