Saudi Arabia Wins First Formula E Best Host Country

Saudi Arabia has been named the first-ever recipient of Formula E's newly introduced "Best Host Country" award. The recognition, part of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, was presented in London during the 2025/2026 End of Season Awards ceremony in August 2026.

The award is a new category, making the 2025–2026 campaign the first season in which it has been handed out. It recognizes the destination that sets a global benchmark in event delivery and organization, the infrastructure supporting the championship, and partnerships and collaboration with Formula E and its stakeholders.

Saudi Arabia's selection reflects its role in hosting the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship since 2018, beginning in Diriyah in the Riyadh Region and later expanding to include Jeddah. Over those seasons, the Kingdom has built a track record of staging races and welcoming international teams, drivers, and fans.

Why it matters

For residents and visitors, the recognition underlines Saudi Arabia's growing presence on the global motorsport calendar and its investment in large-scale sporting events. As of 2026, the award carries prestige only, with no published fees, ticket levies, or host-country financial charges tied to receiving it.

There are also no Saudi government e-platform procedures to apply for or renew the recognition, and it has no validity period under Saudi regulations. It is an honorary recognition organized by Formula E for the 2025–2026 season, rather than a domestic license or permit, with hosting arrangements handled through sports and motorsport event agreements at the government and organizer level.
