Saudi Customs Logs 1,173 Contraband Seizures in a Week

Customs ports across Saudi Arabia recorded 1,173 contraband seizure cases in a single week, as part of continuous enforcement operations at the Kingdom's land, sea, and air crossings.

the seizures included 70 different types of narcotic substances — among them hashish, cocaine, heroin, crystal meth (shabu), and Captagon pills — alongside other illicit drugs. The same period also saw 216 categories of other prohibited materials intercepted before entering or transiting Saudi territory.

Enforcement teams foiled 888 smuggling attempts involving tobacco and its derivatives during the week. The report additionally documented 13 cases linked to counterfeit or prohibited currency, and one seizure case involving weapons and related equipment.

Why it matters

These operations form part of ongoing security and border-protection efforts by the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority to keep narcotics, banned goods, tobacco products, illicit cash, and weapons out of the country. For residents and visitors, the figures highlight the scale of routine screening at points of entry.

The weekly report reflects enforcement statistics only. It does not introduce or change any customs fees, tariffs, or service charges for individuals or companies, and it does not add new procedures for legitimate trade. Regular import and export declarations continue to be processed through the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority's electronic services, and standard customs and anti-smuggling penalties already in force remain unchanged.
