Saudi E-Car Rental Contracts Rise 4% to 1.6M in Q2 2026

More than 1.6 million unified electronic car rental contracts were issued to individuals across Saudi Arabia during the second quarter of 2026, marking a 4% year-on-year increase compared with the same period in 2025, according to an official indicator published in mid-August 2026 by the Transport General Authority (TGA).

The figures cover contracts issued to individuals — not corporate fleets — through the TGA's unified electronic rental platform. The Riyadh region accounted for the largest share at 33% of all contracts, followed by the Makkah region at 23% and the Eastern region at 14%. Asir represented 7%, Madinah 6%, Qassim 5%, Jazan 4% and Tabuk 3%, with the remaining regions together making up 5%.

How the digital process works

Rental establishments issue and manage contracts through the TGA electronic rental portal. The process involves creating a new unified contract, entering the renter's data — including name and national ID or iqama number — and setting the rental duration, vehicle details and financial terms. The contract is then authenticated through a one-time code sent to the renter's mobile number registered in أبشر.

On the customer side, renters can inquire about their current and saved car rental contracts through the official government e-service, which displays valid and saved contracts issued in the car rental sector.

The steady growth underscores the continued expansion of digital solutions in the Kingdom's car rental market, giving residents and expats a faster, more transparent way to rent vehicles while ensuring contracts are documented and verifiable.
