Saudi FDI Inflows Rise 2.4% to SR26.6bn in Q1

Foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows into Saudi Arabia rose 2.4% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2026 to reach SR26.6 billion, up from SR26.0 billion in the same period a year earlier, The figures point to continued momentum in the Kingdom's non-oil economy as diversification efforts advance.

Net FDI inflows, calculated after outflows, stood at SR23.1 billion in Q1 2026, a slight decline of 2.4% from SR23.7 billion a year earlier. FDI outflows during the quarter reached SR3.52 billion, an increase of 50% compared with the same quarter in 2025.

On a quarter-on-quarter basis, total FDI inflows fell 49.9% from SR53.1 billion in the fourth quarter of 2025, while net inflows dropped 51.9% from SR48.0 billion. Such quarterly swings are common in investment data, which can reflect the timing of large one-off transactions rather than a shift in underlying trends.

Why it matters

The annual rise in inflows comes alongside broader signs of economic strength. Real GDP grew by around 3.0% year-on-year in the related period, while gross fixed capital formation expanded by about 5.1%, supported by strong government investment.

For residents and the wider business community, sustained investment inflows typically translate into new projects, job opportunities and greater economic activity across sectors. The figures form part of the ongoing effort to broaden the Kingdom's economic base beyond oil and attract long-term international capital.
