Abha International Airport recorded its busiest day to date on 5 July 2026, handling more than 130 flights in a single day as summer travel reached its peak in the Kingdom's southwest.
The record-setting day comprised 117 domestic flights and 15 international flights, marking the highest daily operational figure ever registered at the airport. The milestone reflects the surge in demand across the summer season, when travelers move for holidays, family visits and cooler weather in the Asir region.
Cluster2 Airports Company, which operates Abha International Airport, reported 3.98 million passengers and 36,600 flights during the second quarter of 2026 across its airports, underscoring the broader rise in passenger demand and flight activity throughout the summer months.
Why it matters
The single-day flight record supports the goals of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy and the Kingdom's Aviation Programme, both of which focus on expanding airport capacity and raising operational service standards across the country.
For travelers, official regulatory and passenger-related services at the airport — including travel permits, resident and visitor data, vaccination and health status, and select transport and municipal services — are integrated through national platforms such as أبشر, توكلنا, مقيم and نفاذ, in line with current digital government policy for Saudi airports and border-control points.
No new Abha-specific passenger service fees, and no changes to standard national aviation charges or airport user fees, have been reported for summer 2026.
