Saudi Foreign Reserves Rise 7.2% to SR1.733 Trillion

Saudi Arabia's foreign currency reserves rose to SR1.733 trillion (about USD 462.15 billion) in August 2026, marking a 7.2% increase compared with the same month a year earlier,

In August 2025, foreign currency reserves stood at SR1.616 trillion (USD 431.11 billion), meaning the annual gain reflects continued strength in the Kingdom's external position. On a month-to-month basis, however, reserves edged down slightly by 0.32%, falling from SR1.738 trillion (USD 463.65 billion) in July to SR1.733 trillion in August.

Foreign currency reserves are one component of the Kingdom's official reserve assets, which also include monetary gold, special drawing rights (SDRs), and the reserve position at the International Monetary Fund. The foreign currency portion consists mainly of currency and deposits held abroad, along with investments in foreign securities.

Why it matters

Robust foreign reserves support the stability of the Saudi Riyal and give the Kingdom a strong buffer to manage external obligations and economic shifts. For residents and businesses, healthy reserves reinforce confidence in the currency and the broader financial system.

These reserves are managed at the central bank and sovereign level and are not linked to any public service portal or user fees. Updated figures are published monthly through the Saudi Central Bank's international reserves reports, which remain the official channel for tracking changes over time.
