Saudi Arabia to Host 2034 FIFA World Cup

Saudi Arabia has been confirmed as the host nation of the 2034 FIFA World Cup, following ratification by the FIFA Congress on 11 December 2024. The tournament is planned as a 48‑team competition, most likely to be staged in winter, though the exact match calendar and ticket pricing have not yet been published as of September 2026.

The approved hosting plan sets out 15 stadiums across five Saudi cities: Riyadh, Jeddah, Al Khobar, Abha, and Neom. Riyadh will carry the largest share with eight stadiums, headlined by the King Salman International Stadium, with a capacity above 92,000, which is designated to host both the opening match and the final. Several other Riyadh venues are planned in the 45,000–70,000 capacity range.

Jeddah is set for four stadiums, including the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium along with new coastal and economic-city venues, each in the region of 45,000–58,000 seats. Al Khobar will host matches at the roughly 46,000-capacity Aramco Stadium, while Abha's King Khalid University Stadium offers around 45,000 seats. In Neom, a new stadium of about 46,000 capacity is planned, including a concept venue set roughly 350 metres above ground level.

A decade of construction

The stadium program involves 11 new stadiums and the extensive refurbishment of four existing ones over roughly a decade. Indicative milestones include the Aramco Stadium in Al Khobar targeted for 2026. Many listed venues — among them King Salman International Stadium, ROSHN Stadium, New Murabba Stadium, Qiddiya Coast Stadium, King Abdullah Economic City Stadium, South Riyadh Stadium, and Neom Stadium — remain in planning or construction phases and are not yet fully operational as of 2026, with no public regular ticket prices or opening times published.

For residents and expats, the World Cup will reshape sporting, transport, and hospitality infrastructure across the Kingdom's major cities over the coming years, offering new venues and events long before the tournament kicks off.
