Saudi Arabia's annual inflation rate reached 1.8% in August 2026, compared with the same month a year earlier, reflecting continued but moderate price growth across the Kingdom.
The main driver was the housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels category, which rose 3.9% year-on-year. Transport costs increased 2.0%, while food and beverage prices climbed 1.4%.
On a monthly basis, the Consumer Price Index edged up just 0.1% from July 2026, pointing to relatively stable pricing conditions in the short term.
Why it matters
For residents and expats in Riyadh, Jeddah, and other cities, housing remains the largest pressure on household budgets, with rents and utility costs leading the annual rise. The moderate increase in food and transport suggests everyday spending has stayed comparatively steady.
An inflation rate below 2% is generally viewed as a sign of a controlled cost-of-living environment, giving families and businesses greater predictability when planning monthly expenses.
