Bids Submitted for NEOM Oxagon Highway 55 Upgrade

Contractors submitted bids on 28 September 2026 for the design-and-build upgrade of Oxagon Highway 55, a key route linking the Red Sea coast with mainland northwestern Saudi Arabia and providing north–south connectivity between Duba and the NEOM region.

The first phase of the project covers 14 kilometres of road, which will be upgraded to provide two lanes in each direction. The scope of works includes the construction of one bridge and three interchanges, with a planned construction period of 22 months.

Why it matters

Highway 55 is an important artery for the northwestern part of the Kingdom, supporting movement between coastal areas and inland communities. Improving the road to a dual-carriageway standard with grade-separated interchanges is expected to ease travel, boost safety, and strengthen connectivity across the fast-developing region around NEOM.

The upgrade forms part of the broader infrastructure push underway in northwestern Saudi Arabia, where new roads and transport links are being built to serve growing residential, industrial, and tourism activity along the Red Sea coast.
