Saudi Arabia's NEOM Green Hydrogen Project has reached total investments of SR31.5 billion, marking one of the largest clean-energy ventures in the Kingdom. The project is located in Oxagon within NEOM, in the Tabuk region, with commercial operations planned for 2027.
The financing was structured with the participation of the National Development Fund, the Saudi Industrial Development Fund, and a group of local and international financial institutions. This mix of public and private backing reflects strong confidence in the project's long-term role in the Kingdom's energy transition.
Once operational, the facility is expected to produce green ammonia using renewable energy. Green ammonia is seen as a key carrier for clean hydrogen, making it easier to store and transport for both domestic use and export markets.
Why it matters
For residents and the wider community, the project signals the growing scale of Saudi Arabia's clean-energy sector and the kind of large infrastructure investments taking shape in the north-west of the country. Projects of this size typically create new jobs, support local supply chains, and open opportunities for specialized skills in renewable energy and industrial operations.
With commercial production targeted for 2027, the NEOM Green Hydrogen Project adds to the momentum behind the Kingdom's broader push toward sustainable energy and diversified economic growth.
