Saudi Arabia's annual inflation rate edged up slightly to 1.9% in September 2026, compared with 1.8% in August 2026, keeping consumer price growth within a steady and moderate range. On a monthly basis, prices were unchanged in September, pointing to overall stability in the cost of living.
The Consumer Price Index reached 105.8 points during the month. The main driver of the annual increase was the housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels category, which rose 3.6% year-on-year — a key factor for residents and expats given its weight in household budgets.
Transport prices increased 2.3% year-on-year, while food and beverage prices rose 1.4% over the same period. Together, these categories shape much of the everyday spending felt by families across Riyadh, Jeddah, and other cities.
Why it matters
Stable inflation helps households plan their spending with more confidence, from rent and utilities to groceries and commuting costs. The modest annual rate suggests that the pace of price increases remains contained, even as housing-related costs continue to carry the largest share of the rise.
On the production side, the Wholesale Price Index increased 4.2% year-on-year in September 2026. Wholesale prices reflect costs earlier in the supply chain and are often watched as an early signal of future movements in retail prices.
