Saudi cultural institutions and literary associations marked World Arabic Novel Day with a wide program of activities across several regions and governorates of the Kingdom. The occasion is observed annually on 12 October.
In 2026, the Professional Literature Association organized 25 cultural events spread across Saudi regions and governorates, reflecting growing community interest in the Arabic novel as a literary form.
The Nala Association for Arts and Narrative held a series of lectures and seminars in Riyadh, Abha, Hail, and Buraydah, bringing writers and readers together to discuss narrative art. The Professional Literature Association also staged literary evenings in Rafha and Al-Darb.
Why it matters
The spread of these events across multiple cities and governorates gives residents in different parts of the Kingdom the chance to take part in discussions about Arabic fiction close to home. The activities highlight the role of literary associations in supporting local writing talent and encouraging reading within the community.
