Saudi Arabia used the occasion of World Tourism Day to highlight its growing investment in artificial intelligence across the tourism sector, showcasing initiatives aimed at improving visitor experiences and destination management.
Earlier this year, on June 28, 2026, the Kingdom launched an AI Tourism Vision designed to integrate artificial intelligence into tourism services, destination management, visitor experiences, and sector decision-making. The move reflects a broader push to modernise the industry through data-driven tools.
Building on that direction, a memorandum was signed on September 1, 2026, with Accenture Saudi Arabia to explore AI applications across tourism operations, workforce capabilities, destinations, and visitor services.
One of the most visible examples already in use is the Nusuk AI assistant, which supports more than 180 languages and has helped over 2 million users with pilgrimage navigation and information — a practical demonstration of how the technology can serve visitors on the ground.
Global context
The 2026 global celebration of World Tourism Day is scheduled for September 27 in El Salvador, under the theme “Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism.” Saudi Arabia is not hosting this year’s international event, but its own AI-focused initiatives align closely with the day’s theme.
For residents and visitors, it is worth noting that no new tourist visa, visa-free entry scheme, electronic travel authorisation, passport requirement, special fee, or travel procedure was introduced in connection with World Tourism Day 2026. Existing entry rules and channels remain unchanged.
