Nine listed Saudi petrochemical companies cut their combined net losses by more than 50% in the first half of 2026, bringing the total down to about SAR 1.7 billion, The figure compares with roughly SAR 3.4 billion in losses recorded during the same period of 2025.
Four of the companies returned to profit in the first half of the year: SABIC Agri-Nutrients, Yansab, Saudi Industrial Investment Group, and Alujain. The remaining five stayed in the red, namely Advanced Petrochemical, Sipchem, SABIC, Tasnee, and Saudi Kayan.
Saudi Kayan reported the largest single loss at about SAR 1.29 billion, followed by Tasnee at around SAR 889.1 million and SABIC at about SAR 820 million.
Why results improved
Companies linked the narrower losses to stronger operating efficiency, better contributions from associates and joint ventures, and lower losses tied to discontinued operations and asset impairments.
The petrochemical sector is a major part of Saudi Arabia's industrial base and a significant employer for both citizens and residents. A halving of losses points to a steadier footing for an industry that has faced pressure from global market conditions, and a healthier sector supports jobs, downstream manufacturing, and the wider economic diversification goals of the Kingdom.
