Saudi US Treasury Holdings Rise to $142.5B in June

Saudi Arabia's holdings of US Treasuries climbed to about $142.5 billion in June 2026, up roughly $2.2 billion from the previous month, continuing a steady rise recorded through the spring.

The June total placed the Kingdom 17th among foreign holders of US Treasuries. The figure marks a gradual increase from around $140.3 billion in May 2026 and about $140.1 billion in April 2026.

long-term Treasuries accounted for the bulk of the total at approximately $108.6 billion, or around 76 percent, while short-term Treasuries made up about $34.0 billion, or roughly 24 percent.

Why it matters

US Treasuries are widely viewed as one of the safest and most liquid financial assets in the world, and holdings by governments are often watched as an indicator of how national reserves are being managed. The steady month-on-month rise reflects continued allocation toward these low-risk instruments.

For residents and businesses in the Kingdom, the movement in such holdings offers a window into the broader picture of Saudi Arabia's foreign asset management and its position within global financial markets. The heavier weighting toward long-term Treasuries suggests a preference for stable, longer-horizon returns within the overall portfolio.
