Saudi Women's Sports Expands With New Programs

Saudi women's participation in sports is being expanded through a set of nationwide programs tied to the Ministry of Sport and the wider sports strategy under Vision 2030, covering school activities, community leagues, and fitness initiatives across the Kingdom.

Physical education for girls is now established nationwide in public schools, with girls' school football participation reported at more than 70,000 players. At the community level, a nationwide women's football league for players aged 17 and above has been launched as a fully funded federation initiative through the Saudi Sports for All Federation.

The women's football competition calendar for the 2025-2026 season includes nine official tournaments and runs from 11 September 2025 to 23 May 2026. Support for the sport has also grown: the women's development support program for the 2024-2025 season was increased from SAR 50 million to SAR 60 million.

Why it matters

The reported national increase in women's sports participation has reached 149% over five years, reflecting a steady shift toward broader access to physical activity for women and girls. For families and residents across the Kingdom, the expansion means more structured opportunities to take part in organized sport, from school programs to community leagues.

Residents interested in specific fees, registration steps, or program schedules are advised to confirm the latest details through official federation and ministry channels, as arrangements may vary by city and season.
