Saudi Arabia's national youth handball team begins its campaign in the 11th Asian Men's Youth (U19) Handball Championship, opening against Qatar in the group stage in Amman, Jordan. The match is scheduled for 20 August 2026 at 16:00 local time at Princess Sumaya Hall in the Jordanian capital.
The championship runs from 20 to 31 August 2026 after being relocated to Amman, where all matches are being hosted at Princess Sumaya Hall. Following a re-draw, the field was reduced to 10 teams split into two groups of five. Saudi Arabia is placed in Group B alongside Kuwait, Iran, Qatar, and Syria.
The preliminary round is played in a round-robin format from 20 to 26 August 2026, with the Saudi side set to face Qatar, Iran, Syria, and Kuwait. The team is targeting a strong start and hopes to secure a win in its opening match against Qatar.
The tournament carries added significance as the Asian qualification event for the 12th IHF Men's Youth (U19) Handball World Championship 2027, with the top four teams booking their places on the global stage. The top four sides in each group advance to the quarter-finals on 28 August 2026, followed by the semi-finals on 29 August and the final and bronze-medal match on 31 August.
For Saudi sports fans, the championship offers a chance to follow the next generation of national handball talent as they compete for a coveted World Championship berth. A successful campaign would mark an important step for the Kingdom's youth development in the sport.
