SFDA Fines 17 Pharma Firms SR1.57M for Violations

Saudi regulators have imposed fines totaling SR 1,575,340 on 17 pharmaceutical establishments across the Kingdom over regulatory violations linked to medicine availability and reporting. The penalties cover violations recorded between May and July 2026.

The largest group, eight establishments, was fined for failing to report drug movements directly through the electronic Pharmaceutical Products Tracking System, known as “RSD,” for their registered products. Another four establishments were penalized for not ensuring the availability of their registered medicines, which led to shortages or the depletion of stock.

A further four establishments were fined for not reporting anticipated shortages or interruptions in supply at least six months before the expected disruption. One establishment was penalized for not keeping sufficient stock of all its registered products for six months and for failing to replenish shortages within the allowed period of up to three months.

Why it matters

Under the Pharmaceutical and Herbal Establishments and Products Law, penalties for such violations can reach SR 5,000,000, along with temporary closure of an establishment for up to 180 days and/or cancellation of its license. The current classification of violations and fines was last officially updated on 9 October 2024 and remains the framework applied in 2026.

Enforcement this year places strong emphasis on integration with and compliance to the RSD electronic tracking system, including the requirement for an integrated electronic system inside pharmaceutical facilities. The rules require establishments to maintain at least six months of sufficient stock, replenish any shortages within a maximum of three months, and report expected supply interruptions at least six months in advance—measures aimed at protecting patients from sudden medicine shortages.
