Wael Al-Fayez named Kings League MENA director

Kings League MENA has appointed Saudi sports and media executive Wael Al-Fayez as its managing director, effective September 2, 2026. He becomes the first person to hold the role for the regional competition, taking charge of commercial strategy, major partnerships, and operational growth across the Middle East and North Africa.

Al-Fayez joins from the Saudi Pro League, where he served as chief commercial officer. His appointment comes as the fast-growing seven-a-side format prepares for its 2026 edition in the Kingdom.

The 2026 competition is being staged at Cool Arena in Boulevard City, الرياض. Split 1 runs from September 18 through October 30, 2026, giving fans in the capital a packed schedule of matches over six weeks.

This year's format features 10 teams, including sides representing Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Morocco, Jordan, Kuwait, and Qatar — reflecting the tournament's regional reach and the growing appetite for the fast-paced, entertainment-driven style of football.

Why it matters

Hosting a major regional football event in the capital adds to Riyadh's busy calendar of sports and entertainment and offers residents and expats another live option close to home. For the wider community, the appointment of a senior Saudi executive signals the tournament's intent to build long-term local roots and stronger commercial ties across the region.
