ACWA Power Signs 3 Battery Storage Deals in Saudi Arabia

ACWA Power has signed agreements to develop three large-scale battery energy storage projects in Saudi Arabia, expanding the Kingdom's clean energy infrastructure. The deals, signed on 20 August 2026, cover projects in Makkah Province and Hail Province.

The three projects are Haden and Al-Muwaih in Makkah Province, and Al-Kahfah in Hail Province. Each project has a capacity of 500 MW / 2,000 MWh, bringing the combined total to 1,500 MW / 6,000 MWh of storage capacity.

The agreements are structured under a build-own-operate model, covering the development, financing, construction, ownership, and operation of standalone battery energy storage facilities. Each agreement runs for 15 years from the commercial operation date of the respective plant. ACWA Power's effective shareholding in each project company stands at 34.9% at financial close.

The total value of the three agreements is SAR 3.25 billion, with individual project values of SAR 1.06 billion, SAR 1.11 billion, and SAR 1.08 billion.

Battery storage systems play a growing role in stabilizing the national grid and enabling greater use of renewable energy by storing power for later use. For residents across the Kingdom, projects like these support a more reliable and sustainable electricity supply as Saudi Arabia advances its clean energy goals under رؤية السعودية 2030.
