Community Sports Participation Grows Across Saudi Arabia

Efforts to expand community sports participation across Saudi Arabia are gaining momentum, with weekly physical-activity participation reaching 59% in 2025 — well above the national target of 40% of the population set for 2030. The push is part of the Quality of Life Program, with community initiatives led by the Saudi Sports for All Federation under the Ministry of Sports.

In 2025, community events and programs were hosted at 3,285 venues nationwide, giving residents in cities and smaller communities more opportunities to stay active close to home. The Federation also supports walking and cycling paths, inclusive participation, sports facilities, and partnerships with the private sector.

Digital tools played a major role in connecting people with activities. More than 650 sports groups were created through the Sports for All application in 2025, bringing together over 22,000 participants. On the wider Sports for All platform, more than 9,000 community sports groups were available, benefiting over 230,000 people.

Why it matters

The growth signals an easier path for residents and expats to join physical activities, whether through organized group programs or community events near where they live. Participation channels include the Sports for All application and programs run under the Ministry of Sports.

There are no official fees, mandatory charges, validity periods, or standardized registration steps specified for general community-sports participation. Specific activity requirements, prices, and schedules vary by program and venue, so those interested are encouraged to check the details of each activity before taking part.
