Riyadh hosted the launch of the world's first global humanoid robot sports league, CyberHero, on 9 September 2026. The inaugural event, dubbed CyberHero x Riyadh, took place at MBC Studio 1 in بوليفارد سيتي, drawing a live seated audience to a purpose-built octagonal combat arena.
The competition featured EngineAI T800 humanoid robots, each standing about 1.73 metres tall, weighing between 75 and 85 kilograms, and fitted with 29 movable joints. The machines are capable of walking, running, punching, kicking, spinning, recovering after falls, and even occasional dance moves.
Two teams of three robot fighters faced off in a series of one-on-one combat rounds under a best-of-seven format. Each round ended either after three minutes or when a robot's health points reached zero and it was knocked out. Knocked-out robots were replaced by the next team fighter, with no health recovery between rounds, and a tie after seven rounds would send the match to sudden death. In the inaugural bout, Team FBA defeated Team Al Majd 4–3 to claim the title.
The roughly two-hour show blended robot combat with music, lighting, and immersive live entertainment, including a performance by Tokyo Machine. Doors opened at 8:30 PM ahead of a 9:00 PM start on the symbolic date of 9/9 at 9.
The Riyadh event marks the start of a global season planned across four regions — the Middle East, Europe, the Americas, and Asia — with competitions set for eight cities worldwide. For residents in الرياض, the event adds another high-profile entertainment offering to the city's growing calendar of major shows and experiences.
