Domestic tourism in the Kingdom recorded a strong month, with trips exceeding 9 million in June 2026, driven mainly by school holidays and a wave of newly launched entertainment and cultural events across major cities.
The momentum builds on solid earlier figures. In the first quarter of 2026, domestic tourists reached 28.9 million, spending SAR 34.7 billion. When combined with international arrivals, total tourists in the quarter stood at 37.2 million, with overall spending of SAR 82.7 billion.
Over the full year of 2025, domestic tourism spending reached roughly SAR 127.1 billion across about 93.3 million domestic tourists, part of overall tourism spending of around SAR 304 billion and some 123 million total visitors.
Hotels and destinations
Average hotel occupancy nationally in Q1 2026 ranged between about 59% and 66%, with higher rates in Madinah (~82%), Makkah (~60%) and جدة (~59%), reflecting strong demand during school holidays and the Ramadan and Eid periods.
Popular destinations benefiting from the growth include العلا, resorts on the البحر الأحمر project, and new venues at القدية such as Six Flags and Aquarabia, which reported notable increases in bookings. Branded resort nightly rates typically range from SAR 800 to 3,000 depending on category and season, while major theme park day tickets generally cost between SAR 150 and 350, with extended evening hours during holidays.
For citizens and residents, travel within the Kingdom is unrestricted, with no special permits or fees applying to domestic trips. Movement is shaped mainly by the school holiday calendar, event programs, and regular booking channels for accommodation and entertainment.
