Technical teams in Saudi Arabia are working to bring the East–West crude oil pipeline back into service after drone attacks in mid-September 2026 prompted a precautionary shutdown and a temporary halt to pumping. Work is focused on bypassing the damaged section so that operations can resume safely.
roughly half of the pipeline's capacity is targeted to return online within days, while full capacity is expected to be restored in about six weeks from mid-September. At full pumping, the cross-country pipeline moves around 7 million barrels of crude
The line is a key piece of strategic energy infrastructure, carrying crude across the country. Earlier in 2026, attacks in April had temporarily cut pumping by about 700,000 barrels with production effects of roughly 300,000 barrels Those volumes and full pumping were restored within days, and officials confirmed full pipeline capacity was operational as of April 12, 2026.
For residents and businesses, the restoration matters because the pipeline underpins the reliability of the Kingdom's energy sector, a cornerstone of the national economy. The current work is being handled internally through technical and operational procedures, with no impact on public services, resident processes, or day-to-day government transactions.
Saudi Living will continue to follow developments as restoration milestones are reached.
