Ehsan Becomes Independent Nonprofit Foundation

A royal order issued on 20 August 2026 has transformed the National Platform for Charitable Work (Ehsan) into an independent nonprofit foundation named the “Ehsan Foundation for Charitable Work.” The move is a structural and governance change, shifting Ehsan from a national platform established in 2020–2021 into an independent nonprofit institution with broader powers and a defined governance framework.

A Board of Trustees has been formed for the new foundation, chaired by Dr. Majid bin Abdullah Al‑Kassabi, with Ahmed bin Suleiman Al‑Rajhi as deputy chairman. Membership runs for a term of three years, renewable. The foundation’s purpose is to strengthen charitable work, connect donors with beneficiaries, expand digital donation opportunities, and enhance the efficiency and sustainability of the nonprofit sector in Saudi Arabia.

For everyday users, little changes in practice. Ehsan continues to operate as a digital donation platform for individuals, companies, and institutions through the Ehsan website (ehsan.sa), the Ehsan mobile app, and the unified donor service number 8001247000. The platform remains integrated with multiple government entities through a supervisory structure to ensure Sharia compliance, verify beneficiary eligibility, and monitor donation accounts.

Ehsan’s main fields of giving currently include charitable aid for families and individuals in need; social, health, educational, housing, and developmental programs; and Zakat, alms, and endowments, including an Ehsan Endowment Fund. No additional service fee is publicly stated for donors, and no registration or service fees are indicated for beneficiaries, whose access is based on eligibility criteria set and monitored by the platform’s committees.

The change matters for the community because it aims to give charitable work in the Kingdom a more flexible and sustainable institutional home, while keeping the trusted donation channels residents and expats already use fully operational.
