Ministry of Sport Unveils 2026-2027 Club Support Plan

The Ministry of Sport launched the new edition of its Sport Clubs Support Strategy for the 2026–2027 sports season during an event held in Riyadh on 10–11 August 2026, marking the eighth year of the programme. The strategy aims to strengthen the sustainability and performance of sports clubs across the Kingdom.

The 2026–2027 edition focuses on institutional performance, financial and administrative sustainability, operational efficiency, service quality, and diversifying clubs' revenue sources. It is built around seven key initiatives: direct support, various (non-football) sports, governance, fan attendance, facility development, digital transformation, and increasing commercial revenues.

Main financial allocations

The strategy sets out major funding across its initiatives. The direct support initiative carries a total of SAR 953 million in performance-based funding tied to specified criteria, while the various sports initiative allocates SAR 517 million to support non-football sports and widen club participation across different disciplines.

The governance initiative provides SAR 541 million covering 103 clubs, linked to compliance with regulations, transparency, administrative and financial efficiency, and performance indicators. A fan attendance initiative worth SAR 99 million is designed to raise spectator numbers, improve the fan experience, and deepen engagement with clubs.

A newly introduced initiative to increase commercial revenues carries SAR 54 million, offering up to SAR 1,000,000 000

The updated strategy continues the broader performance-based funding framework used in previous seasons, which links financial support to governance, sports development, fan engagement, and digital transformation. For residents and fans across the Kingdom, the plan signals continued investment in club facilities, matchday experiences, and a wider range of sports beyond football.
