A royal order issued in February 2026 appointed Saudi engineer Fawaz bin Zunaaf Al-Sahli as President of the Transport General Authority (TGA) at the excellent rank, placing him at the head of the Kingdom's national regulator for land, rail, and maritime transport.
Al-Sahli, a specialist in transport and logistics, previously served as Vice President for the regulatory sector at the authority and held several senior roles in land transport planning and regulation before his new appointment. In 2026 he represents the Kingdom at international transport forums and summits in his capacity as President of the authority.
Big goals for rail jobs
Among the priorities highlighted under his leadership is the expansion of the railway sector. He has stated that the sector aims to grow employment to around 100,000 jobs by 2030, up from roughly 13,000 currently, in step with the wider rollout of rail projects across the country.
The authority also reported that public transport users in Saudi Arabia exceeded 420 million passengers in 2025, a growth of 129% compared with 2019 — a sign of rising reliance on buses, trains, and other public options among residents and expats alike.
For the community, the appointment matters because the TGA sits at the center of plans to turn Saudi Arabia into a global logistics hub. Continued expansion of rail and public transport networks is expected to expand travel options, create jobs, and improve daily mobility in cities including Riyadh and Jeddah.
