The Islamic University in Madinah has renewed its international ABET accreditation for three bachelor's engineering programs in the Faculty of Engineering: Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. The renewal, announced on 15 September 2026 (4 Rabiʿ Al-Akhir 1448 AH), extends recognition through 30 September 2032.
The renewed accreditation confirms that the three programs meet the criteria of the ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission for program quality, learning outcomes, and continuous improvement. The decision applies specifically to the College of Engineering and is program-level only, meaning it does not alter the university's existing institutional accreditation or affect its non-engineering programs.
For students, the practical takeaway is clear: graduates from the three programs between now and 2032 will earn degrees from ABET-accredited programs, subject to ABET's normal periodic review cycles and any future changes after that date. This internationally recognized quality standard can strengthen graduates' standing when pursuing further study or employment abroad.
What it means for students
The renewal covers academic quality standards only. There are no published new or specific fees or separate student charges linked to this ABET renewal as of September 2026. Admission, tuition, and registration for these programs continue to be handled through the university's own electronic admission and student portals.
The accreditation also does not change residency, employment, or municipal procedures in Saudi Arabia. No new processes have been announced for any government platform in connection with this event; it is strictly an academic quality milestone for the College of Engineering.
