Jeddah Airport Delays: Know Your Passenger Rights

King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah remained operational during October 2026, though some flights experienced delays and cancellations. Travelers are advised to check their flight status directly with their airline or through the airport's official flight-status service before heading to the terminal.

Passenger protection rules set clear obligations for airlines. Carriers must notify passengers of a delay at least 45 minutes before the scheduled departure and provide an updated status every 30 minutes. If a delay exceeds two hours, passengers may request a full ticket refund with no deductions. A delay of more than five hours may be treated as a cancellation for compensation purposes.

Compensation for arrival delays is set at 50 Special Drawing Rights for a delay of three to six hours, and 150 Special Drawing Rights for a delay exceeding six hours. Airlines must also provide a suitable meal for delays over three hours, and hotel accommodation plus airport transportation for delays over six hours.

If your flight is cancelled

Passengers whose flights are cancelled can accept an alternative flight or request a full refund, including any additional fees paid. Cancellation compensation is 50% of the affected ticket value when notice is given between 60 and 14 days before departure, 75% when given between 14 days and 24 hours before departure, and 150% when given within 24 hours of departure. All refunds and compensation must be completed within 15 days of the incident.

Complaints should first be submitted to the airline. If the matter remains unresolved, it can be escalated to the General Authority of Civil Aviation through its electronic portal, by calling 1929, or via توكلنا. Knowing these rights helps residents and travelers in جدة plan with confidence during periods of disruption.
