A new investment worth USD 434 million (about SAR 1.6 billion) will expand container-handling capacity at Jeddah Islamic Port. Under definitive agreements signed on 25 August 2026, CMA CGM and Red Sea Gateway Terminal will develop and operate a new Terminal 4 in partnership with the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani).
The project centres on building a dedicated new container terminal rather than any change to fees or service pricing. Once operational, it is set to add up to 2.6 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) of annual capacity to the port.
The expansion includes the construction of new deep-water berths capable of receiving larger vessels, along with the installation of 10 ship-to-shore cranes to speed up loading and unloading operations.
Why it matters
Jeddah Islamic Port is one of the Kingdom's most important gateways for trade on the Red Sea. Boosting its container capacity supports faster movement of goods, strengthens supply chains, and reinforces Jeddah's role as a regional logistics hub. For residents and businesses, greater port efficiency can mean smoother handling of imported goods and stronger long-term economic activity across the western region.
