Jeddah Mayoralty has stepped up simultaneous field inspection campaigns across several neighborhoods to tackle illegal street markets, random street vending, and municipal and health violations, as part of a wider enforcement drive by its branch municipalities.
Among the recent actions, inspectors removed an illegal market located south of the livestock market in southern Jeddah, which was being used to trade and sell used garments. During the operation, food items found unfit for human consumption were seized and destroyed.
The mayoralty says the campaigns follow a unified field inspection plan carried out through branch municipalities, focusing on street vendors, unlicensed markets, and violations in food handling and storage. Enforcement activity has been noticeably increased on weekends.
The push is part of a broader enforcement trend in the city. In related actions this year, joint field campaigns have closed illegal warehouses and food sites and destroyed large quantities of spoiled or unsafe food — including around 20 tons of spoiled food and more than 3.4 tons of unsafe food in separate operations.
How to report violations
Residents are encouraged to report municipal violations and random selling through the Balady digital channel and the unified municipal reporting number 940. These are the primary official channels for complaints about illegal stalls and street vendors within Jeddah.
Earlier municipal penalty frameworks for serious food and hygiene breaches in the city have referenced fines reaching up to 10 million ريال سعودي for using tainted food or substances that harm consumer health, alongside possible closure of premises for at least 180 days and license revocation for one year. Current information on the street-market crackdowns does not list updated or market-specific fine amounts. The campaigns matter to the community because they aim to protect public health, ensure food safety, and keep neighborhoods free of unregulated commercial activity.
