Jeddah Shuts Two Unlicensed Food Sites, Destroys 2.5 Tonnes

Municipal inspectors in Jeddah shut down two unauthorized food-production sites in the Al-Harazat and Al-Qaws neighborhoods in the east of the city, closing both premises, confiscating equipment, and destroying a combined 2.5 tonnes of food products.

inspectors destroyed 1.5 tonnes of food at one site and 1 tonne at the other. The violations involved operating without the required approvals and failing to meet municipal and health requirements.

Food facilities in the Kingdom must obtain the relevant commercial license through Balady before beginning operations. The application process requires entering the establishment record, selecting the activity and location, providing details about the premises, and paying the applicable fees, which are calculated electronically.

Activities that need municipal review are not issued instantly. Instead, the application is referred to the municipality for assessment before any license is granted, a step intended to ensure that food businesses meet health and safety standards before serving the public.

For residents in Jeddah and across the Kingdom, inspections of this kind reflect ongoing efforts to protect public health and ensure that the food reaching consumers is produced in licensed, monitored environments. The official report did not specify the fines imposed, the exact licensing fees, the closure duration, or any validity period.
