Jeddah Port Terminal Sets Record Throughput in July

The South Container Terminal at Jeddah Islamic Port handled more than 221,200 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in July 2026, its highest-ever monthly throughput since operations began in 1999. The month also brought a record export volume of 79,720 TEUs.

The July performance exceeded the monthly volumes recorded before the late-2023 Red Sea shipping disruptions, signalling a strong recovery in one of the Kingdom's busiest maritime gateways.

The terminal has been modernised through an investment of about SAR 3 billion, which more than doubled its annual handling capacity from 1.8 million TEUs to 4 million TEUs. The upgrade positions the facility to absorb rising trade flows across the region.

National context

Total container throughput across all Saudi ports reached 597,737 TEUs in July 2026. Jeddah Islamic Port alone handled 540,107 TEUs, accounting for roughly 90.4% of the national total and underlining the port's central role in the country's supply chains.

For businesses using the terminal, published service tariffs include yard move charges of SAR 80 Gateway handling fees for export full or empty and import empty containers are typically SAR 120 Additional charges apply for special cargo, such as SAR 300 for out-of-gauge containers and a 25% surcharge for hazardous cargo. Reefer power supply charges begin at SAR 200 for the first three days from discharge, rising for longer storage.

The record volumes are a positive signal for importers, exporters and logistics firms across the Kingdom, reflecting expanded capacity and steady demand as trade through Jeddah continues to grow.
