Planning for a major expansion of King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah is moving forward, with the program targeting a total capacity of 114 million passengers annually by 2031. The estimated investment stands at approximately SAR 115 billion.
The plans cover several phases. An expansion of Terminal 1 is intended to add around 15 million passengers annually, with completion targeted for 2026. A new passenger terminal, commonly identified as Terminal 2, is also planned and will include new gates, taxiways, aprons, roads, utilities, and baggage-handling systems.
On the runway side, a fourth runway is planned, with construction targeted for completion in 2029. The wider program also features a dedicated Hajj and Umrah terminal, expanded logistics and cargo facilities, and an airport-city development.
2030 operational targets
By 2030, the airport aims to handle more than 90 million passengers annually and 2.5 million tonnes of cargo each year. Targets also include 15 million transit passengers annually and connections to 150 international destinations.
For residents and travellers in Jeddah and across the western region, the expansion points to greater capacity, more flight options, and improved facilities for pilgrims and cargo operations in the years ahead. As one of the Kingdom's main gateways, particularly for Hajj and Umrah, the upgraded airport is set to play a central role in serving millions of visitors and supporting the region's growing travel demand.
