Khalid bin Mohammed Al-Yousef has been appointed Attorney General of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia by royal order, taking the helm of the Public Prosecution with the rank of minister and chairing the Public Prosecution Council. His appointment came as part of a wider government reshuffle that replaced the previous attorney general and several senior officials.
In his new role, Al-Yousef oversees criminal investigations and public prosecution nationwide. He also chairs the Public Prosecution Council, placing him at the centre of the Kingdom's justice system.
Before this appointment, Al-Yousef served as President of the Board of Grievances and Chairman of the Administrative Judiciary Council, where he led work on the administrative judiciary and court digitisation initiatives. Following his move to the Public Prosecution, the President of the Board of Grievances, Ali bin Ahmed Al-Ahaidib, paid a formal visit to congratulate him on the royal trust placed in him.
Institutional Transformation program
As Attorney General, Al-Yousef launched an "Institutional Transformation" program for the Public Prosecution aimed at developing the work environment, strengthening governance and quality, and raising performance and service levels in line with the Kingdom's justice modernisation goals. A steering committee and executive teams were formed under his leadership to oversee and implement the program.
On the regional stage, he represents Saudi Arabia in prosecutorial cooperation and currently chairs the executive committee of the Arab Association for Prosecutors.
For residents and expats, many justice-related e-services connected to courts and prosecutions are accessed through Najiz, while identity, notifications, and some justice-related government services are available via Absher and Tawakkalna.
