Khalid bin Mohammed Al-Yousef has been appointed Attorney General of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia by royal order, taking over the leadership of the Public Prosecution and chairing the Public Prosecution Council. The appointment came as part of a broad government reshuffle affecting the leadership of several senior bodies.
The royal order relieved the previous Attorney General, Sheikh Saud Al-Mujeb, and moved Al-Yousef from his former post as President of the Board of Grievances to head the Public Prosecution. In his role, he oversees the prosecution's part in criminal investigations and prosecutions, and represents the body domestically and in regional forums, including chairing the executive committee meeting of the Arab Association for Prosecutors.
Under Al-Yousef's leadership, the Public Prosecution launched an Institutional Transformation Program aimed at developing its work environment, building a more efficient institutional system, improving the quality of performance, and raising service levels. The program also seeks to align the prosecution's operations with wider judicial modernization goals. A steering committee and executive teams have been formed within the body to supervise and implement the program.
Al-Yousef brings a background in senior judicial and administrative roles at the Board of Grievances. He holds a doctorate in comparative jurisprudence from the Higher Institute of Judiciary at Imam Muhammad ibn Saud Islamic University.
For residents and expats, the leadership and the ongoing modernization efforts matter because Public Prosecution services are increasingly integrated into the Kingdom's wider digital justice and government-transformation initiatives, reflecting a continued push toward more efficient and accessible legal services.
