King Abdullah Sports City Opens to Private Operators

King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah has been added to Saudi Arabia's Sports Facilities Investment initiative, opening the door for the private sector to operate and manage some of the city's most prominent venues.

The facilities covered under the program include Alinma Stadium — formerly known as King Abdullah Sports City Stadium — and the indoor arena. The opportunity is offered through a proposed three-year contract that allows a private operator to run and manage the venues.

What operators can do

Eligible commercial activities under the program include hosting sporting events, non-sporting events, and community activities, in addition to ticketing, food and beverage concessions, hospitality, advertising, and selected commercial rights. Naming rights for the stadium are excluded from the listed operating opportunity, as Alinma Bank holds the naming rights through 2029 — the reason the venue is currently known as Alinma Stadium.

Bidding and tender procedures are handled through the Ministry of Sport's official investment and procurement channels. No application fee, tender security amount, operating fee, final contract price, or eligibility timeline has been stated in the available information.

For the community, the move could mean a busier calendar of sporting and non-sporting events at one of Jeddah's largest venues, along with expanded hospitality and dining options tied to those events. Admission prices and timings are not fixed and will depend on each individual event.
