King Khalid Airport Stays Shut for Safety Checks

Operations at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh remained suspended as of October 12, 2026, as authorities continued safety inspections following an incident that led to the temporary halt on October 10, 2026. No confirmed reopening time had been announced.

The suspension was put in place to allow a full damage assessment and safety checks of airport facilities, carried out together with the relevant authorities. Officials indicated the measure would stay in effect until safety verification is completed and an official reopening is announced. No fixed expiry date was published.

No airport-closure fee or safety-inspection charge was introduced as part of the suspension.

What passengers should do

Travelers are advised to check their airline's flight-status notifications and to contact their airline directly before heading to the airport. This step can help avoid unnecessary trips while the situation remains fluid.

Updates are being issued through the General Authority of Civil Aviation and official King Khalid International Airport announcements. Passengers with upcoming flights should monitor these channels closely for the latest information on reopening and schedule changes.

Because the suspension affects one of the Kingdom's busiest air gateways, residents and expats in Riyadh with travel plans are encouraged to plan for possible delays and to confirm arrangements with their airline before departing for the airport.
