New Partnerships Boost Saudi Digital Government AI

Saudi Arabia has announced a wave of new partnerships aimed at accelerating digital government services and artificial intelligence, as the Kingdom marks 2026 as the designated "Year of AI." The agreements bring together government bodies, national institutions, and global technology and academic partners to strengthen public-sector digital transformation.

The Digital Government Authority (DGA) signed a strategic partnership with STV at LEAP 2026 to speed up innovation in government digital services and AI. Under the deal, STV contributes technical expertise, identifies and supports startups, and assesses investment opportunities through its AI and emerging technologies fund, while the DGA offers government use cases, an innovation sandbox, procurement opportunities, and clear regulatory and funding pathways.

In a separate move, the DGA signed a Memorandum of Understanding in September 2026 with the Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI). The agreement covers joint technical workshops on AI and emerging technologies, talent development through researcher secondment, PhD exchange and internships, joint research, and proof-of-concept validation in the DGA's sandbox environment.

Why it matters

At the national level, the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) has reached agreements with several US technology companies to enhance AI infrastructure, data centers, skills development, and public-sector digital transformation, alongside an SDAIA–Shareek deal to accelerate AI and cloud innovation. A HUMAIN and AWS partnership, with investment exceeding USD 5 billion, includes an AI Zone and a unified AI agent marketplace to simplify how government entities and regulated sectors discover, deploy, and manage AI software.

National infrastructure initiatives also include financing agreements to expand hyperscale AI data center capacity of up to 250 MW, supporting AI training and inference for customers that include public-sector users. Together, these steps are set to make government services faster and smarter for residents and businesses across the Kingdom.
