The Real Estate General Authority has warned real estate brokers and service providers that violating the sector's regulations can lead to license suspension or cancellation, along with fines of up to SAR 200,000.
penalties are applied for practicing real estate brokerage without a valid license, failing to verify information provided by the property owner or beneficiary, and not displaying the licensee's name or license number in property advertisements.
The system allows for a range of measures depending on the case, including a warning, suspension of the license for up to one year, revocation or cancellation of the license, and a financial penalty not exceeding SAR 200,000. The fine can be doubled if the same violation is repeated within three years.
How penalties escalate
The implementing regulations classify certain license-related violations with escalating penalties. For example, a first offense may result in a warning, a second offense in suspension, and a third offense in cancellation of the license altogether.
The move matters for residents and investors alike. With property transactions playing a growing role in the Kingdom's economy, clearer accountability aims to protect buyers, sellers, and tenants from unlicensed practices and misleading listings. Consumers are encouraged to verify that any broker they deal with holds a valid license and that property ads clearly show the licensee's name and license number before proceeding with any deal.
