King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh launched the first phase of its Silent Airport project at Terminal 5 on 18 August 2026, aiming to create a calmer, more comfortable travel environment for passengers.
Under the project, routine public announcements across the terminal are being reduced and limited mainly to departure gates. Instead of relying on frequent overhead voice calls, passengers can now follow their flight updates through several digital and on-site channels.
These include digital display screens, the airport website, a dedicated WhatsApp service on 920020090, clear signage throughout the terminal, and the airport's “Ask Me” team, who are on hand to assist travelers directly.
A gradual rollout
The change is being introduced gradually, with only Terminal 5 included in this first phase. Plans for extending the project to other terminals have not yet been publicly detailed. There is no fee or additional cost associated with the Silent Airport initiative.
For residents and frequent flyers in Riyadh, the shift means a quieter terminal experience and a stronger reliance on screens and mobile updates. Passengers are encouraged to keep an eye on the display boards and to save the airport's WhatsApp number to stay informed about gate changes and boarding times.
