Riyadh Launches Jeddah Road Four-Bridge Project

Riyadh has launched the Jeddah Road Development Project, a corridor upgrade led by the Royal Commission for Riyadh City under the Main and Ring Road Axes Development Program, aimed at improving traffic flow and connectivity across the city.

The first announced package delivers four new bridges on Jeddah Road, with a total length of about 990 metres and four traffic lanes in each direction. Traffic diversions for this package began on 2 August 2026, affecting Jeddah Road near its intersections with Prince Bandar bin Abdulaziz Road, Prince Turki bin Abdulaziz Al Awwal Road, and Prince Turki bin Abdulaziz Al Thani Road. Temporary alternative routes, closed sections, and open roads have been defined on an official diversion map for the construction period.

The broader project spans a 29-kilometre corridor and includes 14 bridges, with the main road expanded to five lanes in each direction. Once complete, the corridor is designed to handle more than 353,000 vehicles alongside pedestrian bridges to improve safety. The four-bridge package is part of wider road-network work that also covers the intersection of the Western Ring Road with Jeddah Road and parallel bridges near the Wadi Laban bridge.

For residents and commuters, there are no published user fees or tolls for using Jeddah Road or the new bridges as of August 2026; the road remains part of the public network. Drivers do not need any national e-platform procedure to use the road or its diversions — access is managed through standard traffic arrangements and physical signage.

Motorists are advised to follow the official diversion map during the construction period and to plan alternative routes near the affected intersections. Inquiries about the temporary traffic arrangements can be directed to the unified number 19998, while project details and updates are available through the Royal Commission for Riyadh City's official announcements.
